An environmental restoration initiative that needed a digital presence to match its mission.
Antequera Entorno Natural is a rewilding initiative launched by the Opus Foundation to restore the natural habitat of one of the most unique landscapes on the Iberian Peninsula. The project already existed and had real value, but it lacked a name, a visual identity and a digital presence.
The challenge was not only to communicate, but to do so for very different audiences at the same time: families, schools and young people who needed a simple, visual experience, and donors and stakeholders who sought rigour and credibility. All this in two languages and with a team lacking the technical resources to manage complex tools.
The key decision was to start with the name and brand identity before touching any digital elements. Without a clear brand, any website would have been an empty shell.
The standard corporate website approach was ruled out. A text-heavy page with a conventional structure would have put off younger audiences, who were precisely the most strategic demographic for the long-term project. The focus was on visual storytelling, interactivity and the distillation of information as editorial criteria.
It was also decided that the website had to be self-manageable by the Opus Foundation team without relying on external technical support. This shaped the decisions regarding architecture and platform from the outset.
The project began with the development of the brand name and the full brand identity: colours, logo, typefaces and style guide. Without that starting point, the web design decisions would have been arbitrary.
With the identity defined, the website was designed and developed in WordPress with a deliberately simple and playful structure: less text, more visual elements, simplified maps and interactive infographics. Every content decision was made with the young audience in mind.
Over 30 informative pieces of content were developed on the region’s fauna, flora and history, written in two languages in an accessible tone without compromising on accuracy. SEO optimisation was incorporated from the very start of the site’s architecture, rather than as a final layer.
To round off the system, a donation gateway was integrated to channel financial support to the project in a direct and functional manner.
A digital platform that fulfils three functions at once: informing visitors, educating younger audiences and financially supporting the project through donations. The Opus Foundation team manages the site independently, without relying on external technical support.
‘We wanted to highlight the importance of a non-profit project like this. A key part of this was creating something that would really appeal to a younger audience: visually appealing, straightforward and fun to explore. The site designed by Incógnito achieves this and allows us to manage it directly.’
